How to Read PDF Books on Android with FluttX Reader

TL;DR: FluttX Reader now reads PDFs as well as EPUBs. Import a PDF from the file picker or with Open With / Share. It sits in your library next to your EPUBs and opens in a dedicated viewer with zoom, contents, search and per-page progress. Password-protected PDFs work too.

Why PDF support matters

EPUB is the best format for books you read cover to cover, because the text reflows to fit your screen and your font settings. But a lot of reading only exists as PDF: textbooks, research papers, scanned older books, course notes, and many books in Bangla, Hindi, Arabic, Urdu and other regional languages that are published digitally as PDFs.

Until now that meant keeping two apps, one for EPUBs and one for PDFs. With PDF support, FluttX Reader becomes one library for both.

How to add a PDF to your library

There are two ways, the same as for EPUBs:

1. From the Library. Use the import option in the Library and pick a PDF from your device storage or downloads.
2. From another app. Tap a PDF in a file manager, browser download, email attachment, WhatsApp, Telegram or Google Drive, then choose Open with FluttX Reader or share it to FluttX.

Imported PDFs show up in the Library with a format badge and their page count. Use the format filter when you want to see only your PDFs, or only your EPUBs.

Reading a PDF in FluttX

PDFs keep their original page layout, so FluttX opens them in a dedicated fixed-layout viewer rather than the reflowing EPUB reader. The viewer gives you:

• Page navigation. Move page by page, or jump straight to a page number.
• Zoom. Zoom in on small print, tables and diagrams, and zoom back out to see the whole page.
• Table of contents. If the PDF has an outline, jump to any chapter or section from the contents.
• In-book search. Find a word or phrase anywhere in the document.
• Password-protected PDFs. If a PDF is locked with a password you know, enter it and read as normal.
• Per-page progress. FluttX saves your page, so the book reopens where you stopped.

The viewer uses clean, immersive controls that stay out of the way while you read and come back with a tap.

PDF or EPUB: which should you choose?

If a book is available as a DRM-free EPUB, that is usually the more comfortable choice on a phone. If it only comes as a PDF, FluttX now handles that too.

Things to know

• DRM-free files only. FluttX opens DRM-free EPUB and PDF files. Books locked with Kindle or Adobe DRM will not open.
• Free classics are still EPUB. The Discover tab downloads public-domain classics from Project Gutenberg, Open Library and Standard Ebooks as EPUBs, so they reflow and use all of your comfort settings. See our guide to free classic books on Android.
